John Bellino Obituary

John M. Bellino, 76, of Waterbury, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 18, 2016, at Waterbury Hospital. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He was born on September 8, 1940, son of the late Alfonse and Anna (DeRienzo) Bellino.

John graduated from Crosby High School in 1957.  He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Western Connecticut University in 1962, and later went on to earn his Master’s Degree.

He was an educator for the City of Waterbury for 35 years, retiring in 1998.  He was well loved by his students. In his later years, he worked as an employee at Colasanto Funeral Home.

John was a huge fan of baseball. He played, coached, and umpired. He was a pitching star at Crosby High, UConn-Waterbury Branch, and Western Connecticut University.  He was inducted into the WCSU Hall of Fame in 2002, and still holds the school’s record of striking out 18 batters in a nine-inning game in 1962.  He was made The State of Connecticut’s Umpire of the Year, in 2005.

John is predeceased by his brother, Richard Bellino.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 51 years, Frances (Ranando) Bellino, his son and best friend, Joseph Bellino, and a daughter, Teri Jerome, and two grandsons, Brandon Jerome and Derek Jerome, Jr., all of Waterbury.  His is also survived by a sister, Jeanne Sivilla and her husband John,  his sister-in-laws, Judy Campbell, Maryann (Amicone) Bellino, and a brother-in-law, Robert Ranando, also several nieces and nephews.

John was a longtime parishioner of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Waterbury.
