Obituary: Joseph Anthony Lombardi

March 11, 2017

Joseph Anthony Lombardi – Long-time local business owner, devoted husband, brother and loving uncle.

After nothing short of a heroic battle against failing health, Joseph A. Lombardi (Joe) passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2017, one month after turning 82 years old.

Joe was born on February 4, 1935, the son of the late John G. Lombardi and Mary R. (Massimo) Lombardi. He was a life-long resident of the City of Waterbury and parishioner at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.

Joe graduated Sacred Heart High School and McAllister School of Embalming (in New York City), after which he began working as a mortician at Colasanto Funeral Home in Waterbury. He would eventually own Colasanto Funeral Home, and operate the business for over 50-years from its original location in the Brooklyn section of Waterbury.

Joe was also a dedicated parishioner at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Waterbury. He served several years as Chairman of the annual Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, as well as President of the Holy Name and the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Societies.

Throughout his life, Joe surrounded himself with, and truly enjoyed, his family. He is survived by his two brothers John Lombardi, and Michael Lombardi and his wife Loretta of Waterbury. He is also survived by his nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews, all of whom he was close to all of their lives. They will never forget “Uncle Joe.” They are as listed:    Nephew Steven Lombardi, his wife Dawn, and their children Samantha, Nicholas, and Melanie of Simsbury, Niece Carla (Lombardi) Guglielmo, her husband Gary, and their children Stefanie and William of Middlebury, Nephew Michael Lombardi, his wife Susan, and their children Michael and Angela of Watertown, Niece Mary-Ann (Lombardi) Cyr, her husband Brian, and their children Brittany, Bradd, and Brooke of Waterbury, Niece Lisa (Lombardi) DiZinno, her husband Robert, and their daughter Casey, and Nephew John Lombardi and his wife Rita of Waterbury.

He was predeceased by his loving wife Georgette (Guertin) Lombardi and his sister-in-law Rose Lombardi.

The family wishes to thank the Very Special Caregivers at The Village in Waterbury.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Joseph Lombardi’s name to the Our Lady of Mount Carmel School Fund, 645 Congress Ave., Waterbury, CT 06708
