Michael Joseph Colangelo, 54, of Thomaston, formerly of Morris and Prospect, died on October 8, 2017, at his home, with his loving family by his side. He was the devoted husband of Deborah (Crochet) Colangelo.
Michael was born in Waterbury, CT, on December 6, 1962. He was the son of Robert and Margaret (McGill) Colangelo of Prospect.
Michael worked for many years at Precision Wirecut in Waterbury, but his true passion was cooking. He was the owner/operator of many food service establishments and pizza restaurants in the area, including M&L Pizza, Michael Anthony Pizza, and Colangelo Catering.
Besides cooking, Michael loved fishing, hunting, and boating. He truly loved living on Bantam Lake, where he could invite friends, including Harry Hamzy, and family over to eat, go tubing, swim, and just hang out. He loved sharing his recipes, and teaching all who were interested.
Michael was the most compassionate, caring, loving, and generous man that you could ever meet. He made friends easily, and they all became part of the family. Michael would offer you his home if you needed a place to stay, cook lavish meals for you if you were hungry, give you the shirt off his back if you were cold, and he would give you his last dollar if you needed money. The world was a better place for having Michael in it.
Besides his wife and parents, he is survived by Debbie’s four sons: Rick Lecuyer of Thomaston, Albert Lecuyer of Northfield, Nick and Alyssa Lecuyer of Wallingford, and Matt Lecuyer of Thomaston, all of whom thought of him as a dad, and who cared for him until the end. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters: Bob Colangelo of Torrington, Richard Colangelo of Litchfield, Maribeth ( Joe) Wojenski of Southington, Julie ( Mike) Bunce of Prospect, and Sharon ( David) Fortier of Northfield; two grandchildren, Hailie Aponte and Aria Fritz of Harwinton, Debbie’s parents, Albert and Natalie Crochet, his brother-in-law, Peter (Stacy) Crochet, his sisters-in-law, Patti (Bob) Hinrichs, Susan Crochet-Smith, Lisa Crochet-Doucette, and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and an extended family of friends.
Michael was predeceased by his son, Michael Anthony Colangelo. They are now together again for Eternity.
The family would like to thank Hartford HealthCare at Home Hope Team Nurse Carrie, and Aide Patty, for all their Care and compassion.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2017, at 12:15pm at St. Anthony’s Church, 4 Union City Rd., Prospect. There will be no calling hours. Everyone is asked to meet directly at church. Burial will be private, and at the convenience of the family. Colasanto Funeral Home has been entrusted with all arrangements.
