Spunky Italian Grandmother
Rosemary A. Stanton, 85, better known to most as “Rosie," passed away on December 18, 2020, at Ingraham Manor, Bristol, CT.
Rosie was born and raised in Waterbury, CT. She was born in Waterbury, on September 8, 1935, the daughter of the late Joseph and Rose (Brunelli) Summa.
She married her late husband and sweetheart, Frank Stanton - whom she met through her best friend, the late Patty Martino - and they had three beautiful children: Debra Varrone, Frank Stanton, and late son, James Stanton.
Rosie was a talented Italian cook and homemaker. She was always in the kitchen making something, and enjoyed spending her spare time chatting on the phone every day. The most important thing to her was her family. Rosie was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, "Sasa," as her great grandchildren would call her. Her hands were never still. She treasured her family, and adored spending every moment with them.
Rosie loved being a typical old-school Italian grandmother, and doing everything possible for her family. She had a one-of-a-kind, vibrant, energetic, and no-nonsense personality, and constantly made people around her laugh. She was always on the go. She enjoyed going out to breakfast with her husband and grandchildren, going shopping, and just being out on the town.
Grandma will always be remembered for her cooking - especially her delicious sauce, perfectly cooked meatballs, and her famous fried dough. Christmas and Easter was always the time when she would make her Italian cookies and pizalles that she took pride in. Rosie knew what life was about - nobody left her house hungry. Cooking and feeding her family was a big part of her everyday life.
She definitely touched the heart and soul of everyone she met. If you went shopping with her, she would run into at least two people she knew, and she just had to catch up. Rosie will be terribly missed by her children, her four grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren, whom she loved and cherished with all her heart and soul.
Rose is survived by her children: Debra Varrone, of Waterbury, and Frank (Sharon) Stanton, of Bristol, her grandchildren: Michael Varrone, of Waterbury, Gina (Drew) LaRowe, of Waterbury, Jason (Paige) Stanton, of Bristol, Eric James (Brooke) Stanton, of Bristol, and her great-grandchildren: Issac, Makayla, Zackery, and Nicholas Varrone, Julien, Noah, and Lola LaRowe, Emma Stanton, and Wyatt, Grant, and Emersyn Stanton. She is also survived by her brother, William Summa, of Edgewater, Florida, and her brother-in-law, Edgar Brouillard. Rosie also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, whom she loved to, spend time with, and many, many good, lifelong friends.
Besides her husband, she is predeceased by her son, James Stanton, her brothers, Charles, Danny, and Joseph Summa, and her sisters, Gertrude Brouillard, and Patricia Wagner.
