Salvatore Edo Obituary

Salvatore “Sam” Edo, 92, of Milford, Conn., passed away peacefully at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Bridgeport, Conn., on Monday, May 10, 2021, with his family and friends close by. He was the loving husband of the late Patricia “Pat” (Dickerson) Edo for 46 years.

He was born in Bridgeport, Conn., on July 5, 1928, the son of Reginaldo and Maria Rosa (Prestia) Ido. His parents immigrated to America just after the turn of the century from Calabria, Italy. His attachment to his family in Calabria remained strong until the end.

Sam grew up on the East Side of Bridgeport, and held many fond memories of friends, families, and the “old neighborhood.” He attended St. Mary’s Church and St. Mary’s School, where a desire to enter a religious vocation led him to The Holy Ghost Seminary in Bensalem, Pa., at the age of 13. The draw of home and family led him back to Bridgeport, where he graduated from Warren Harding High School in 1946. Soon after, he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps and served three years in the Pacific Theater as part of the U.S. occupation forces, after the end of World War II.

He returned to Bridgeport once again in 1949. Always the entrepreneur, he owned a variety of businesses, eventually establishing Mr. Sam’s Coiffures in Milford, Conn., where his beauty salon served the public for 40 years. He was cherished by the community and a friend to everyone. His generosity and respect for all was boundless, and his circle of friends seemed endless. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Sam’s greatest joy in life came from his family. On May 8, 1954, he married Patricia, and they raised their son Alan in Milford and then Orange, Conn. His two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren were the absolute delight of his later years.

Sam was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia, and seven siblings. He is survived by his son Alan and his wife, Millie; two grandchildren, Theresa and her husband Robert Freeman of Mansfield, Mass., and Joseph Edo of Milford, Conn.; two great-grandchildren, Emily and Luke Freeman; and a large extended family.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Ann Church, 501 Naugatuck Ave., Milford, Conn., on Friday, June 4, at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kings Highway Cemetery, 273 Cherry St., Milford, Conn.
