Albina (Dobrovolskyte) Paliulis, 98, of Waterbury, CT, passed away on November 2, 2023.
Albina was born March 8, 1925, in Varnabūdė, Marijampolė. Her happy upbringing was disrupted by the Second World War, as she had to flee her native Lithuania. She made her way to a new life in America, where she met the love of her life, Kazimeras Paliulis. They married on February 18, 1950, and had two beautiful daughters, Joana and Romute.
Tragedy was never far from Albina's life. She was struck by a car in the early 1970's. In 1979, she lost her younger daughter, Romute, to a drunk driver. She was again heartbroken in 2015, when Kazimeras's passing left her a widow. She also sadly outlived her beloved daughter Joana, who predeceased her in October, 2023, after a prolonged battle with cancer.
However, tragedy was not the defining characteristic of Albina's life. She faced every obstacle with unrelenting positivity, joy, and love. Against all odds, she not only survived her accident, but was able to walk again, defying doctors' predictions. She poured her considerable efforts and talents into her Catholic faith, the Lithuanian community, and her family. Her cooking and baking were second to none. She had a vivacious personality, and her joie de vivre was contagious. She would often burst into Lithuanian songs or poems, which she seemingly had ready for every occasion.
She is survived by her doting granddaughter, Audra Healey.
Friends and family are invited to attend as we celebrate Albina's life on Friday, November 10, at 8:30 am, from Colasanto Funeral Home, 932 Bank St., Waterbury, to St. Joseph Parish, 46 Congress Ave, Waterbury, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am. Burial will follow at the Lithuanian Cemetery, 102 Plank Road, Waterbury.
