Loving Mother, Grandmother
Carmela Anna (Pannone) Mastroianni, 84, of MIDDLEBURY - Passed Away Peacefully on May 2nd, 2020, in the VITAS Inpatient Hospice Unit at Waterbury Hospital, surrounded by her Loving Family. She was the wife of the late Anthony D. Mastroianni Sr.
She was born on November 16, 1935, daughter of the late John and Louise (Cinicola) Pannone.
Carmela graduated Waterbury Catholic High School Class of 1954, and went on to work for Colonial Bank and Trust in Waterbury, CT, before marrying her loving husband of over 60 years. She was a Lifetime Homemaker for her Family, longtime member of the Saint John of the Cross Church Altar Society, and she spent decades volunteering and advocating for the mentally ill and handicapped. She loved sewing, gardening, was an avid baker (some of the family's favorites were her homemade Italian bread, lasagna, extensive variety of Christmas cookies, and icebox dessert cake), and spending holidays with her children and grandchildren. She also loved watching old black and white movies, while munching away on a big bag of "Skinny Pop" popcorn. She especially enjoyed having family gatherings at the family's retreat home in Maine. She had a very sincere interest in the lives of her Children, and, especially, her Grandchildren, whom she considered her precious little gems. She loved telling jokes to others, and had a great sense of humor and personality.
She is survived by: her four sons, Anthony Jr, Joseph, and Bart, of Middlebury, and Domenic, of Hockley, Texas, her daughter, LouAnn Larwin, of Middlebury, her grandchildren, Joshua Larwin, Gregory Mastroianni, Joelle Mastroianni, and Jacqueline Rose Marie Mastroianni. She is also survived by her brother, Mario Pannone, of Bristol, CT, and several nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her three brothers, Anthony, Joseph, and Domenic Pannone.
Family would like to SINCERELY Thank Waterbury Hospital, VITAS Inpatient Hospice, and Apple Rehab/Convalescent Care, for all their care and compassion for Carmela throughout her illness.
