Catherine Frances (Lawson) Nesta

Catherine (Irene) Frances Nesta, of Waterbury, CT, passed away on September 29, 2021, at Waterbury Hospital, after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Angelo Michael Nesta.

Catherine was born on April 6, 1932. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Julia (O’Brien) Lawson. Catherine lived her entire life in Waterbury, a city that she loved. She was a graduate of St. Mary’s Grammar School, and Waterbury Catholic High School. She worked at Timex Corp. for many years, and retired in 1991 from Bendix Cheshire Corp. In retirement, she volunteered in the gift shop at St. Mary’s Hospital for over twenty years. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and a member of the Legion of Mary.

Catherine was very proud of her Irish ancestry, and visited Ireland several times, but she also embraced her husband’s heritage, and learned to cook wonderful Italian foods. One of her greatest joys was making meals for family and friends. It gave her great pleasure to serve and wait on people.

Catherine leaves behind her loving children, Kathleen Leisge of Portsmouth, RI, Alan (Joyce) Nesta of Beacon Falls, and Francine (Robert) Hoft of Waterbury. She was the beloved grandmother of seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her two sisters and her brother in law, Mary Licese of Waterbury, and Shirley and Loring Smithies of North Dartmouth, MA, as well as many nieces, nephews, and close family friends. She was predeceased by her sister, Helen Blanchard, and her brother, Charles Lawson.

A funeral Service will be held at 8:30 am, on Friday, October 8, 2021, from Colasanto Funeral Home, 932 Bank St., Waterbury, to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 785 Highland Ave, Waterbury, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am. Burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 5:00 pm, to 7:00 pm, on Thursday, October 7, 2021.
