Hector L. Medina, 81, of Waterbury, passed from earth to God’s heaven peacefully Friday, August 7, 2015, surrounded by his loving family after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Hector was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, on December 23, 1933. He was the son of Tito DeHoyes and Maria T. Medina.
Hector had many loves in his life. His first love was, and forever will be, his wife of 61 years, Delia. His second loves were his 9 children, 20 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren. They were the light of his life, his sun and stars. His third love was his island in Ponce, Puerto Rico, where he grew up as a child. Hector was also a voracious, lifetime fan of the New York Yankees, and rarely missed a game. He was a Machinist, at Scovill Manufacturing for over 40 years.
Hector was a truly selfless man who did so much for so many, including contributing monthly to his favorite charity, St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. He did this for many, many years. Even in his last days, Hector’s last quote to his family would be, “I don’t want nobody to feel sorry for me man, I lived a good life. I love you with all my heart, for always and always. Te amo con todo mi corazon, siempre y por siempre.”
He is survived by: his wife Delia Medina Quiones, two sons - Hector and David Medina of Waterbury, seven daughters - Madeline Medina, Nancy Medina, Anita Fernandez, Marizol Gore, Mimi Rosario, Jeanette Colon, and Brenda Medina. He also leaves behind 20 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 8 brothers and sisters, and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Hector’s name to St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
A Celabration of Life will be held on Friday, August 14, 2015, at Colasanto Funeral Home, 932 Bank St., Waterbury, CT. Friends and family may call from 6 pm to 8 pm.
