June 25, 1927 — May 4, 2024 (age 96)
Madeline M. Jamele, 96, passed away peacefully at Waterbury Hospital, on May 4, 2024.
Madeline was the second child born into the Jamele family with five brothers growing up in Waterbury. She graduated from Wilby High School and then went straight to work at Southern New England Telephone (SNET), where she enjoyed working for 40 years in Network Operations.
Throughout her life, she exemplified the virtues of faith, humility, and kindness. As a devout Catholic, Madeline found solace and strength in her faith by attending Mass regularly at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, and then later in life by watching the Mass on television every day.
Beyond her religious devotion, Madeline was known for her love of sports and outdoor activities. She greatly enjoyed being a member of her bowling team, her weekly swim at the YMCA, and in previous years, playing 18 holes of golf, where she preferred to tow her clubs rather than ride in a golf cart.
She had a zest for learning, and was always current on local and national news. Her adventurous spirit inspired her to travel throughout the U.S., Canada, UK, Italy, the South Pacific, and Australia — embracing all people and their cultures.
Madeline's warmth and spirit will always be remembered. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and strength that will continue to inspire all. She is survived by her niece, Doreen Jamele of Georgia, her nephew, Joe of New Hampshire, her dedicated friend and caregiver, Gresa Cepa, of Waterbury, and two nephews and one niece of Connecticut, who will cherish her memory and honor her faith and kindness.
A funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 785 Highland Ave., at 10:00 am, on Friday, May 10th, to celebrate Madeline’s life and to give thanks. Burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery, 2324 E. Main St., Waterbury. A Gathering of Friends and Family will be held on Friday morning, from 8:30 - 9:30 am, at Colasanto Funeral Home, 932 Bank St., Waterbury.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to OLMC Church, St. Vincent de Paul, St. Jude Children's Hospital, or a charity of your choice.
