Michael DiLeo Obituary

 

 

Michael J. DiLeo, 81, of Waterbury, passed away after a short illness, at Autumn Lake Healthcare, on Wednesday, September 28, 2016.

He was born in Waterbury, on February 10, 1935, the son of the late, Michael A. and Antoinette (Arena) DiLeo.

Michael attended Duggan Elementary school and graduated from Wilby High School in 1953. He was thrilled to see Wilby win the final game at the State Basketball Championship in Boston.

Michael was a Veteran, having served in the United States Army; he then went to work for Southbury Training School for 38 years, until his retirement.

He was an avid baseball fan, and he loved the Yankees.  He saw Joe Dimmageo in 1949, at Yankee Stadium.  Michael combined his love of baseball and travel, and he traveled all over the USA to attend games in 35 baseball parks.

Michael was a lifetime member of The Boys and Girls Club, and he was an active member of the YMCA. He loved to attend high school reunions and socializing with his friends.

He is survived by his twin sisters, Josephine Thibodeau, and her husband Leo, of Waterbury, Dolores Gollner, and her husband Raymond, of Gardena, CA, two nieces, Laura Hinckley, and her husband David, of Gardena, CA, Elaine Hernandez, and her husband Antonio, of Palmdale, CA, grand nieces and nephews, Emily Hinckley, and twins Sarah and Joshua Hinckley, and Hudson Hernandez.

Michael was predeceased by his fiancée, Theresa Cote.

 A funeral will be held at 9am, on Saturday, October 8, 2016, from Colasanto Funeral Home 932 Bank St. Waterbury, to St. Peter and Paul’s Church, 67 Southmayd Rd., Waterbury, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am. Burial to follow with Full Military Honors, in Calvary Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 5pm to 7pm, on Friday, October 7, 2016.
