Salvatore Montagano, 94, of Waterbury, passed away suddenly at Civita Care Center of Newington, on December 17, 2022. His daughter, Rosemary Montagano, with whom he lived with for 16 years, was by his side.
He was born on January 1, 1928, in Celenza Valfortore, Foggia, Italy, the son of Angelo and Maria (Mansueta) Montagano.
Salvatore migrated to Waterbury, CT, when he was 25 years old, after marrying his first wife, Angelina (Becce), in 1954. Besides their daughter, Rosemary, they also have a son, Michael Montagano, who lives in Wendall, MA.
Salvatore worked as a Printing Press Machine Operator, at ITW Buckle &Tag Company in Waterbury, for 34 years. He was an avid gardener, and very knowledgeable of plants in general. He maintained a garden for many years, and he built ones for others that included grapevine covered pergolas. He made wine every year, and also loved to hunt and fish.
Besides his first wife, Salvatore was also predeceased by his second wife, Esther (Gialello) Pandolfe.
Along with his daughter, Rosemary (fiancé, Christopher Schneider), and his son, Michael, Salvatore leaves behind four stepchildren: Bernadette Longo (Kathy), Terri Kepler (Anthony), Anthony Pandolfe (Sylvanna), and Elizabeth Levesque (Joseph), eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and several beloved nieces and nephews - together with all of whom Salvatore spent many holidays, until the end. He also leaves behind his older brother, Nicola Montagano, of Switzerland, and his younger sister, Concetta Montagano, of Italy.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, December 22, from 9:00 am to 10:00 am, at Colasanto Funeral Home, 932 Bank St., Wtby, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, at St. Francis Xavier Church, 625 Baldwin St., Wtby. Burial to immediately follow at Calvary Cemetery, 2324 E. Main St., Wtby.
